If dogs urinate in the same spot multiple times, the grass in that spot will turn yellow and may stop growing.
All urine contains a relatively high concentration of nitrogen, which in small doses acts as a fertilizer. However, high concentrations of urine act as a poison to plants. Therefore, dog urine only becomes a problem for the lawn if the dog urinates in the same place repeatedly.
What do you do about faded stains from dog urine?
If the grass has been so affected by urine that it has stopped growing, there is nothing else to do but the following:
- Dig 5-10 cm of soil where the grass has withered.
- Replace with new soil.
- Sow new grass on the spot.
and then possibly take a few extra walks with the dog every day so that it doesn't have to pee on the lawn.
